Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic 2026: Dates, Schedule & Everything You Need to Know

There are a few events that truly feel like a Boise tradition, and the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is definitely one of them! Every Labor Day weekend, colorful hot air balloons fill the skies over Boise, creating one of the most memorable sights of the year.

In 2026, the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic celebrates its 35th anniversary, bringing five mornings of balloon festivities to Ann Morrison Park from September 2–6, 2026. Whether you’ve lived in the Treasure Valley for years or you’re visiting Boise for Labor Day weekend, this is one local event worth setting an early alarm for.

2026 Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic Details

Dates: Wednesday, September 2 – Sunday, September 6, 2026
Location: Ann Morrison Park, 1000 S Americana Blvd., Boise, ID 83706
Admission: Morning balloon events are free to attend
Best time to arrive: Early! Most balloon activity begins between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m.

Balloon launches are always weather permitting, so schedules can change depending on wind and weather conditions.

Wednesday, September 2: Kid’s Day

The festival kicks off Wednesday morning with Kid’s Day.

7:00 a.m. – Balloons arrive on the launch field
7:40 a.m. – Kid’s Day activities begin

Rather than a traditional launch, balloons are inflated on the field so kids can get an up-close look at how hot air balloons work. Kids also have the opportunity to take a free tethered balloon ride, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you have little ones, this is one of the best mornings to experience the festival!

Thursday, September 3: First Launch

Thursday morning marks the first official balloon launch of the 2026 event.

6:45 a.m. – Balloons arrive at Ann Morrison Park
7:20 a.m. – First Launch

Watching dozens of balloons inflate as the sun comes up and then take off over Boise is an experience that never gets old.

Friday, September 4: Sponsor Day & Nite Glow Spectacular

Friday is one of the biggest days of the Balloon Classic, with both a morning launch and the popular Nite Glow Spectacular that evening.

Friday Morning

6:45 a.m. – Pilots arrive at the park
7:20 a.m. – Morning Flight

Friday Evening

4:00 p.m. – Inflatable Fun Zone opens
5:00 p.m. – Nite Glow activities begin with food, vendors and live music
8:45 p.m. – Nite Glow Spectacular

The Nite Glow is one of the most popular events of the entire weekend. Instead of taking flight, the balloons remain on the ground and illuminate their envelopes against the night sky.

The main Nite Glow festivities are free to enjoy. The Inflatable Fun Zone requires a separate ticket, with advance tickets listed at $20 for access from 4:00–8:45 p.m.

Saturday, September 5: Family Morning Launch

Saturday is another great option for families who can’t make the weekday launches.

6:45 a.m. – Balloons begin arriving at the park
7:20 a.m. – Family Morning Flight

Bring your coffee, a blanket or lawn chairs and settle in for a colorful Boise sunrise.

Sunday, September 6: The Great Launch

Sunday morning wraps up the 2026 Balloon Classic with the Great Launch — and this one is worth getting up extra early for.

5:15 a.m. – Final launch day begins
6:00 a.m. – Great Launch inflation
7:20 a.m. – Final Morning Flight

Sunday also features Dawn Patrol, when multiple balloons take flight before dawn. Seeing glowing balloons against the early morning sky before the sun comes up makes this a particularly memorable finale.

What to Know Before You Go

A few tips can make your Balloon Classic morning even better:

• Arrive early. This is a popular Boise tradition, especially Friday evening and over the weekend. Allow time to walk into the park from where you find parking. 
• Dress in layers. Early September mornings in Boise can be cool before temperatures warm up.
• Bring blankets or lawn chairs if you want somewhere comfortable to sit.
• Grab coffee before you go, you’ll be starting your day early!
• Keep an eye on the weather. Ballooning is extremely weather dependent, and launches may be delayed or canceled if conditions aren't safe.
• Don’t expect to purchase a balloon ride. Public balloon rides are not offered as part of the festival. The exception is the free tethered rides for children during Wednesday’s Kid’s Day.

A Boise Labor Day Weekend Tradition

The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic has been part of Boise’s story since balloons first gathered at Ann Morrison Park in 1991. Today, it continues to bring locals and visitors together for five days of early mornings, colorful skies and some pretty incredible views of the Treasure Valley.
